MEET MICHELLE
Partnership, Transparency, and Accountability
Ms. Simmons is an educator with 18 plus years of experience in education in the private and public sector. She is a 2017 Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education Fellow and an Elementary Special Education teacher.
She has worked with teachers in China and studied at the University of Ghana in the Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad program. Ms. Simmons is a member of the Georgia School Board Association, PTA, Georgia Association of Educators, The Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the Treasurer of the West Metro NAACP. She is currently on the path to becoming a certified Student Outcomes Focused Governance Coach, which will enable her to actively support her governance team and other school system governance teams across the nation.
Michelle is a native of Chicago, Illinois earning her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Information Systems from Illinois State University (ISU), a MBA and a MPA from Keller Graduate School of Management. She received certification to teach Early Childhood Special Education from Mercer University and is endorsed to teach Mild Moderate Intellectual Disabilities. Michelle has a heart for sign-language and currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of Education and has served in that role the last 7 years.
